The Imes Covered Bridge

"The covered bridge is one of the last surviving icons of rural America"

Imes Covered Bridge

Imes Covered Bridge, located on the east edge of St. Charles, is considered the county's oldest bridge, built in 1870 by J.P. Clark.

St. Charles, the gateway to Madison County, is located just off Interstate 35, about 20 minutes south of Des Moines.

The bridge has been moved twice, and is one of two "pitched roof" covered bridges remaining in the area. The bridge was entered into the National Register of Historic Places August 7, 1976.

The bridge is 65 feet long and is open to pedestrian traffic with nearby picnic tables
